It is an exciting new trimester at PCMS and the opportunities are endless. One great part about being a Technology and Engineering elective teacher is that I get to see and get to know new students every term. Over the next few days I hope to get to know a little about each and every one of my new students. Here is what we will be doing this week during class.
6th Grade: We will learn why the STEM subjects are so important and how Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics are used to help make our world a better place. Specifically we will discuss what engineers do for a living.
7th Grade: I am very excited to start this new trimester with my 7th grade students. We will start exploring Autodesk Inventor, a 3D computer aided design software, immediately. Students will expand on what they learned during 6th grade. The culmination of this design will eventually become plans for a small woodworking project. It will be very exciting to see students not only design a project using CAD software but take those designs and fabricate a product using traditional woodworking tools.
8th Grade: I am a little sad that my favorite unit, our Robotics unit, has ended. After cleaning up and dismantling our robots we will begin our Flight and Space unit. After reviewing how advancements in flight and space have shaped modern society our first experiment will be the creation of a hot air balloon.
